22 international riders for biking event

Twenty-two international riders have already confirmed their participation in the third edition of the MTB Kerala – 2015, an international mountain biking event, hosted by the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society (KATPS) , an initiative of the Kerala Tourism Department, will be held at the Priyadarshini tea estate at Pancharakkolly, near Mananthavady, on April 18.

“As many as 22 international riders from eight countries have registered for the event so far. We are expecting 35 international riders from across the world for the international competition and nearly 120 participants for the national category,” Asha Jose, chief executive officer, KATPS, told The Hindu . Close to Rs.6 lakh will be awarded to the winners as cash prize, she added.

The event is being organised in association with the District Tourism Promotion Council. The Union Cycliste Internationale and Cycling Federation of India will provide technical assistance for the programme.

The events will be held on a five-km rough terrain circuit track on the Priyadarshini hill slopes. The event is aimed at tapping the potential of the adventure tourism spots in the State, Ms. Asha said.
